With a medium-firm feel, our Eco Organic Mattress is ideal for side sleepers, as well as back sleepers and stomach sleepers. It provides optimized pressure relief and contours to your body’s natural curves. It is slightly less firm than our Avocado Green Mattress. 

We use GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex (CU863637), which is also Rainforest Alliance and FSC® certified (C156318). We make our own GOLS certified organic latex from co-owned farmer's societies and processing facilities in India and Guatemala, operating under the USDA's National Organic Program. It's made with ≥95% certified organic latex, the highest possible standard. Dunlop latex is naturally antimicrobial, cooler than memory foam, requires no adhesives to seam it together, and is more durable than Talalay latex. It is processed in a GOLS organic certified facility in India that we also co-own. Our Eco Organic Mattress uses one seamless layer of organic latex — 2 inches in the comfort layer (D65 / 14-19 ILD, soft). Our organic latex also features certifications from Rainforest Alliance, eco-INSTITUT®, and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 (19.0.79546, Hohenstein HTTI).

The benefits of wool’s complex and natural physio-chemical structure are endless: it wicks away moisture, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as yet another all-natural fire barrier. It’s breathable — both warm and cool when you need it. It's natural crimp gives it bounce, body and soft support characteristics. And it’s also non-allergenic (ideal for those who suffer allergies to feather and down or synthetic bedding products) and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. At Avocado, we add a layer of pure, naturally crimped GOTS-certified organic wool (CU 863637) (1 ounce per square foot) under the organic certified cotton ticking in every mattress. We do not blend any rayon, polyester or flame retarding chemicals with our wool. Our organic wool has received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification (19.HIN.68466, Hohenstein HTTI) — which requires annual lab testing to ensure no harmful substances are present as a result of processing, to include banned substances, toxic chemicals, pesticides and dyes. The Avocado Eco Organic Mattress contains RWS certified wool (CU 863637). 

For a luxurious and premium finish, we use GOTS certified organic cotton (CU863637) in a soft, natural color, for a luxurious and premium finish, over a generous layer of organic wool with thin non-woven backing as a natural fire barrier. We do not use polyester fiber. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India, Turkey, Canada and North Carolina, our organic cotton is a durable textile.We use rings to keep all the layers of the mattress in place without using toxic glues. 

We use up to 988 8" springs (in the California king). Made in Los Angeles in our own manufacturing facility, our border coils are a meaty 14.5 gauge and interior zone coils are 12 gauge. (Higher gauges mean a thinner coil. Thicker coils deliver greater durability.)

Some companies use toxic chemical glues to bind their mattress layers together, which contributes to off-gassing and indoor air pollution. We do not. Instead, we use simple durable metal rings made from recycled steel to keep our mattress layers firmly in place.

No flame retardants of any kind are used. Our Eco Organic Mattress uses only 100% GOTS organic certified wool, which is naturally fire resistant. This wool has also been tested for harmful substances and meets STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification (19.HIN.68466, Hohenstein HTTI). Of course, as a MADE SAFE® Certified product, we do not use other chemical treatments, rayon blends, or fiberglass fiber fire socks are used.

On a scale of 1 - 10 (with 10 being the firmest) our Eco Organic Mattress rates as a 5, which is gentle, yet firm. It's ideally suited for back and stomach sleepers, as well as lighter individuals and growing children — anyone in need of natural cushioning and medium-firm support.

As a Climate Neutral Certified company since 2019, we've measured Avocado's annual cradle-to-consumer emissions, offset them by investing in climate change solutions, and started taking real action to reduce our emissions. We also recognize our offsets and reductions aren't enough. Solving climate change will require systemic solutions. That's why, through our partnerships with Ceres and the American Sustainable Business Network, we also advocate for state and federal policies that support equitable solutions to the climate crisis.

From materials to manufacturing and shipping, we understand that every small decision contributes to our larger impact. In 2022, we expanded our productions facility footprint from two to five while still increasing the amount of waste we diverted from landfills by 9%, achieving an overall waste diversion rate of 78%. Mattress ships in a convenient rectangular box. The Eco Organic Mattress is vacuum sealed in recyclable plastic, but will soon be wrapped and rolled in upcycled paper — saving up to 30 feet of plastic per mattress! Paper can be recycled. This eco-friendly new process is entering production in April, 2022. Avocado will be the only mattress maker in America to wrap their mattresses in paper.

Unboxing your mattress is easy, but it can be heavy. Be sure to recycle all packaging materials.You can sleep on your mattress immediately.

A law label is a legally required tag or label on new mattresses that describes the interior filling materials. Few companies will share this information prior to your purchase because it separates fact from marketing hype. We believe differently. Here's what the legal tag on the Eco Organic Mattress actually says: Made in California with internal materials (based on weight) consisting of Latex Foam Rubber Pad (91%) and Wool Fiber (9%), plus a 100% Organic Cotton Cover. Note: NO polyurethane foams, NO memory foams, NO synthetic foams, NO latex blends, NO chemical adhesives between the comfort layers, and NO chemical flame retardants are used!
